Desire: Painting popular, retrospective, Africa, engaged

This exhibition at the Maillol Museum represents the first retrospective devoted to the painter's work, spanning 40 years of creativity. Presenting more than 50 paintings, it offers an itinerary through various "Sambaian" themes, highlighting the self-portrait as the central pivot of his painting, Congo and Africa, geopolitical issues and environmental issues, the history of art, and finally, women. This last theme creates an unprecedented dialogue with the work of Maillol, insinuating itself into the rooms of the museum.
